SILVER BUFFALOBERRY Sheperdia argentea
This native plant is great for that sunny, hot, and dry area where nothing else seems to grow. It is well adapted to poor dry soil. Can be grown as a large shrub or a gnarled twisting character tree.
Shrub: Height 3m (10ft).
Foliage: Fine texture, strap like leaves are silver top and bottom.
Flowers: Clusters of small yellow flowers that are not very showy.
Fruit: Dark red clusters of berries are held close to the stem. Native Americans used them to flavour buffalo meat. Great for wildlife.
Comments: The Silver Buffaloberry will sometimes sucker. It requires male and female trees to produce fruit. Great acreage plant. It naturalizes readily
